PT 204 Sandtray Play Therapy
Sandtray Therapy is a powerful, non-verbal therapeutic technique that uses a tray of sand and miniatures to help clients express their inner thoughts and emotions. It’s particularly effective for clients who find it difficult to articulate their feelings. Through creating scenes in the sandtray, clients can explore their inner world, work through trauma, and gain insights into their experiences.
Course Objectives:

Learning about the essential materials and equipment used in Sandtray Therapy for therapeutic sessions.

Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of Sandtray Therapy, including its roots in Jungian psychology, Gestalt therapy, humanistic psychology, play therapy, and individual psychology.

Acquiring knowledge of various Sandtray Therapy techniques, including free play, directed sandtray, thematic sandtray, role-playing, and more, and practice applying these techniques in different therapeutic contexts.

Interpreting and Analyzing Sandtrays, facilitating deeper understanding and insight into the client's inner world.

Understanding and applying the ethical considerations specific to Sandtray Therapy.

Dr. Tom Yuen (PH.D., Registered Psychologist, RPT-S™)
Dr. Tom Yuen is a scholar in counselling education. He possesses a wealth of expertise and is proficient in Chinese and English. He has taught psychotherapy and play therapy in countries like the United States, Canada, and Hong Kong. In recent years, he has dedicated himself to passing down the principles of play therapy to the next generation, presenting it in its true essence through Cantonese.

Play therapy credit may be awarded to graduate students enrolled in a graduate mental health program or individuals who hold a graduate mental health degree in counselling, marriage and family therapy, psychiatry, psychology, or social work.
