PT 202 Adlerian Play Therapy II

Adlerian Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach that integrates the principles of Alfred Adler’s individual psychology with play therapy techniques. The advanced topics emphasize the importance of understanding the child’s unique perception of their world and their striving for significance and belonging. By combining the therapeutic power of play with the deep psychological insights of Adlerian theory, this course offers clinical and holistic training for the participants who support children in their emotional and psychological development.

Course Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn to structure and conduct play therapy sessions using Adlerian methods, including building rapport, assessing the child’s life-style, and reorienting maladaptive behaviors.

  2. Participants will be able to integrate advanced techniques such as life-style analysis, sandtray, and dream works into Adlerian play therapy to facilitate expression and exploration.

  3. Participants will understand the importance of supervision and self-reflection in Adlerian play therapy and develop skills to continuously improve their practice through feedback and personal growth.

  4. Participants will learn to adapt Adlerian play therapy techniques for special populations, such as children with disabilities, children in foster care, and those experiencing grief and loss.

  5. Participants will reflect on their own therapeutic style and how it aligns with Adlerian principles, enhancing their personal approach to therapy.
